Your First Visit

1. Before Your Visit: Preparation & What to Bring

Proper preparation helps us tailor your treatment more effectively and ensures a smooth experience:

  • Medical History: Bring a summary of your health conditions, past surgeries, current medications, and any relevant test results (e.g., scans, blood work). This helps our practitioners understand your health background and avoid potential interactions.

  • Clothing: Wear loose, comfortable, and breathable clothing (e.g., cotton tops, stretchy pants). This allows easy access to acupoints during acupuncture and ensures comfort during Tuina massage, as we may need to adjust your position.

  • Diet & Hydration: Eat a light meal 1–2 hours before your appointment—avoid fasting or overeating. Stay hydrated, but avoid excessive caffeine, alcohol, or spicy foods on the day of treatment, as they can disrupt Qi flow.

  • Time Management: Arrive 10–15 minutes early to complete a brief intake form. This gives you time to relax and avoid rushing, which helps your body enter a calm state for treatment.

  • Questions & Goals: Jot down any questions or specific health goals (e.g., "relieve lower back pain," "improve sleep quality") to discuss with your practitioner.

2. Your First Appointment: What to Expect

A typical first visit lasts 60–90 minutes, including diagnosis, treatment, and guidance. Here’s what happens:

Comprehensive TCM Diagnosis

Our practitioners use the four traditional TCM diagnostic methods to identify your unique energy imbalances:

  • Observation: We observe your complexion, tongue (color, coating, shape), and overall demeanor—key indicators of Qi, Blood, and organ health.

  • Listening & Smelling: We listen to your voice (strength, tone) and note any unusual body odors, which reflect internal balance.

  • Questioning: We ask detailed questions about your symptoms, lifestyle, diet, sleep, and emotional state to connect the dots of your health.

  • Palpation: We check your pulse (on both wrists, at three positions) to assess Qi and Blood flow, and may gently press on specific areas to identify tension or pain.

After diagnosis, your practitioner will explain your TCM imbalance (e.g., "Liver Qi stagnation," "Spleen Qi deficiency") and recommend a personalized treatment plan, which may combine acupuncture, Tuina, and lifestyle adjustments.

Acupuncture & Tuina Treatment

Treatment begins once you’re comfortable. Our practitioners prioritize your safety and comfort at all times:

  • Acupuncture: We use ultra-fine, sterile, single-use needles (disposed of after each treatment) to stimulate specific acupoints. You may feel a mild, dull sensation (called "De Qi")—this is normal and indicates Qi flow. The needles remain in place for 15–30 minutes, during which you can relax, breathe deeply, or even nap.

  • Tuina Massage: If included in your plan, Tuina uses gentle, targeted techniques (kneading, pressing, rolling) on meridians and muscles. Unlike conventional massage, it focuses on resolving energy imbalances. Your practitioner will avoid sensitive areas and adjust pressure to your comfort level.
